It catches mosquitoes but - The Mosquito Magnet catches mosquitoes but its not reliable and the cost for repairs is high. I purchased a Defender model about a year ago and it worked great coming out of the box. However within three months it malfunctioned and had to be sent back for repairs. I stored the unit in my garage over the winter and tried to reactivate it this spring. While trying to reactivate the unit I broke the quick value and tried to order a replacement from the factory but they refused to supply the replacement part and required me to send the unit back to their service center to have this screw in valve replaced. I sent it back and was given an estimate in excess of $100 for repairs plus approximately a $18 cost for the broken part. When I refused to pay this estimate the service center finally agreed to return my unit with the replacement part. I had to unscrew 4 screws unscrew the broken valve screw in the replacement value and replace the 4 screws I was through within 5 minutes. Th :2010-09-15 12:15:08
A Colossal DUD at Mosquito Control One of the costliest mistakes I ever made was purchasing this device (actually two of them!) to control mosquitoes in the yard. Yes it caught mosquitoes but it did not eliminate the problem; the yard was still a mosquito zone despite two operating machines. The problem was that while the machine does catch mosquitoes it does not catch enough of them to make a serious dent in the overall population. It was not until I sprayed the yard with Cutter Bug-Free Backyard Cutter Bug Free Backyard 32 oz Ready-to-Spray Hose End Insect Repellent Concentrate HG-61067 that I finally got rid of the mosquitoes.
I did not like this product for many reasons: it had a high initial cost it required replacing the Octenol attractant (more $$) and the propane tank needed refilling about every 3-4 weeks (more $$). In addition it needs an electrical cord plug-in nearby and one has to replace the mosquito catch nets (more $$). Basically it costs too much to operate takes too much on-going m :2010-09-15 12:15:08
Kills Mosquitoes by the Zillions--mostly. I bought my machine 5 or 6 years ago and looking at this site I saw a wide variety of reviews; either they love it or they hate it. I thought Id throw in my two cents.
When I first bought my Liberty machine (now discontinued it seems)I killed legions of mosquitoes. Put quarts of them in zip-lock bags and brought them to school to ask students (and fellow science faculty) if they could tell me what they were. No one has ever seen so many mosquitoes in one place before.
Anyway the catch you are going to get varies with the population which varies with temperature and standing water availability location etc. So there is going to be lots of variability in immediate results. The thing that counts however is how much you are being bit up. It takes a while to take effect because it mainly works by knocking down the reproducing population. It doesnt suck the whole yard clean all at once.
It can be kind of fiddly though. I am kind of handy working :2010-09-15 12:15:08
